The Six Nations Cannabis Commission (SNCC) is seeking community members who are dedicated to advancing responsible cannabis regulation and governance to apply for positions as Commissioners on our Board. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and oversight of the cannabis industry within Six Nations of the Grand River, with a focus on community well-being, cultural values, and economic growth.
About the Six Nations Cannabis Commission (SNCC)
The SNCC governs the regulated cannabis industry within the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. The Commission is responsible for updating and enforcing the Six Nations of the Grand River Cannabis Regulations and Laws, as approved by the Six Nations Elected Council. As a Commissioner, you will help shape policies that ensure the safety, health, and prosperity of the Six Nations community while integrating traditional knowledge with modern regulatory practices.
Role and Responsibilities of a Commissioner
As a Commissioner on the Six Nations Cannabis Commission, your responsibilities will include:
- Governance and Oversight: Review, update, and enforce cannabis regulations, ensuring they align with the needs of the community and the values of Six Nations.
- Balanced Decision-Making: Apply a Two-Eyed Seeing approach—integrating both traditional Indigenous knowledge and contemporary governance principles—to ensure fair and unbiased decisions.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the drafting and refinement of cannabis-related policies that reflect the best interests of Six Nations, with a focus on public health, safety, and community engagement.
- Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between the Commission and the community, ensuring that feedback from the people is heard and integrated into the decision-making process.
- Strategic Planning: Assist in long-term planning for the cannabis industry within Six Nations, addressing economic, environmental, and social considerations.
- Cultural Integrity: Uphold Six Nations' cultural values, traditions, and governance structures while making decisions that affect our community and territory.
Key Qualifications and Skills
- Understanding of the Cannabis Industry: Knowledge of the cannabis sector, including cultivation, production, distribution, licensing, and regulatory frameworks, is essential. A background in cannabis law, policy, or business is an asset, but not required.
- Computer Literacy: Proficiency in basic office software such as Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for drafting documents, creating reports, and communicating effectively.
- Policy Drafting and Writing: Experience with drafting, reviewing, or implementing policies is required. Ability to write clear, concise, and legally sound documents that align with community goals and regulatory requirements.
- Commitment to Community: A strong connection to Six Nations culture, values, and community priorities, with a deep commitment to serving the interests of the people.
- Balanced Judgment: Ability to make fair, impartial decisions with a focus on the community’s long-term well-being. Experience with governance, public policy, or similar decision-making bodies is an asset.
- Confidentiality: Ability to handle sensitive community and business matters with the highest level of confidentiality.
- Availability: Commissioners must be able to commit to attending regular meetings and community consultations as needed.

Compensation
This is a paid position by honorarium, and Commissioners will be expected to serve in a professional, collaborative, and community-focused capacity.
