The Toronto Transit Commission is currently accepting Summer Student applications for Summer 2022 – May 2, 2022 to August 27, 2022. We offer a wide range of entry level and specialty positions in various locations throughout the City of Toronto. Most positions involve working in a unionized environment. Some positions may involve working outdoors, while others may require specific licenses, skillsets and/or work experience.

The TTC operates 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Therefore, students must be flexible and willing to work shift work, as 80% of the positions available involve working various shifts (morning, afternoon, nights), which may include working weekends and holidays.

Eligibility

To be considered for summer student employment, you must be:

  • Eligible to work in Canada,
  • A full-time student, enrolled in full-time studies in the current Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 academic terms/year in either Grade 12 or a post-secondary institution; and
  • Returning to full-time studies in the Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 academic terms/year.

Station Ambassador

This position is a front-line customer service related position, which has been developed to assist tourist’s travelling by TTC to major events in the downtown core.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for handing out TTC Ride Guides, pamphlets, etc. to customers at various subway locations.
  • Responsible for providing customers with directions to nearby attractions.
  • Responsible for assisting customers with general information.

Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Strong customer service skills and knowledge of the City of Toronto’s downtown attractions (would be an asset).
  • Will be required to interact with customers.
  • May be required to stand during the duration of your shift next to a portable kiosk.
  • Will be required to successfully complete TTC’s in-house training relevant to this position.
  • Safety footwear required (students may be eligible for a safety footwear voucher to help offset some of the cost).

Shifts

  • 35 hour work week which includes working weekends with mid-week off You must be flexible as you can be scheduled to work different shifts throughout the week.

Station Collector

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for collecting proper fares (tickets, tokens, cash) and checking on the validity of passes transfers, etc.
  • You will be required to balance working account at any time upon

Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Customer service skills, strong math skills (math test administered during interview).
  • Previous cashier experience
  • Bending and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be extremely flexible, you may not know shift until night

Shifts

  • (Various shifts/split shifts.)
  • 5:30 a.m. – 2:00 a.m. (own transportation is preferred).
  • Rotating off days.

Accounting Clerk

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sound knowledge of Accounting Principles, such as, Accounts Payable/Receivable may be required.
  • Required to monitor attendance related to section and payroll duties.
  • Preparing Excel spreadsheet summaries for a variety of financial reports.
  • Receiving, sorting and filing memos, forms, reports, etc., that are used as input material for spreadsheets and reports.

Sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices related to financial record-keeping, account analysis and reconciliation. Microsoft Office).  Possess excellent keyboarding and word processing skills.  You will require good organizational skills and the ability to handle several responsibilities at once under minimal supervision; good interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills for dealing with staff at various levels and interact with various TTC and bank personnel.

Clerical Assistant

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Providing administrative, clerical and secretarial
  • Photocopying and faxing a variety of correspondence.
  • Answering phone calls and forwarding calls to appropriate staff and/or taking
  • Sorting and distribution of incoming/outgoing
  • Data entry using a variety of MS programs or TTC in-house
  • Substituting for administrative staff during periods of overload and/or
  • Payroll for some vacancies.

Garage Operations Assistant/Swing Duties & Responsibilities

  • Providing general administrative and clerical support for the Manager – Bus Maintenance at the assigned location
  • Maintaining various central files and computerized databases relating to the garage’s work activities and performing a variety of general office services duties for the garage
  • Mintaining and updating several departmental databases
  • May be required to perform essential duties at another Garage location as required

Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Sound knowledge of modern office methods, procedures, practices and equipment
  • Good knowledge of computers and proficiency in computerized applications related to the work (e.g. various databases, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.) and possess good keyboarding skills
  • Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and good organizational skills with the ability to meet required deadlines
