Title: Registered ECE – EarlyON Child and Family Program
Reports to: Early Years Coordinator and/or Early Years Manager
Term: 12 months per year
Hours: Full-time 40 hours per week, weekend and evening hours required

Niwasa Kendaaswin Teg provides holistic programs and services for Indigenous children, youth, families and community that are rooted in culture and language. Our vision is to provide high quality programming that fosters identity formation and creates a sense of belonging.

Position Overview: Under the direction of the Early Years Manager and Early Years Coordinator, the EarlyON Facilitator is responsible for engaging children and families in early learning and cultural activities; plan and facilitate parent education sessions, and work as a liaison with Early Years Service Providers.

Specific Job Competencies

  • Plan, design and facilitate a dynamic learning environment which respects all children, youth and families
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Early Years Best Practices, How Does Learning Happen?, Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years, and Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture, history and language is recommended
  • Theoretical and traditional knowledge of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit issues and realities in an urban Indigenous setting
  • Experience working with a diverse community of children, staff, families, and community service organizations.
  • Effective oral and written communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Effective problem solving skills and experience with mediation/alternative dispute resolution strategies.
  • Able to maintain and promote confidentiality.
  • Required to work various shifts, evening and weekend hours, year round.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of Niwasa Kendaaswin Teg and any relevant and related legislation.
  • Willingness to participate in staff meetings, team building experiences, cultural teachings and professional development opportunities.


  • Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with children and families in an early learning environment
  • Current clear Vulnerable Sector Screen (CPIC)
  • Standard First Aid and CPR
  • Knowledge of Early Years Best Practices
  • Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License and clear driver’s abstract
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy items over 50 lbs.
  • Doctor Certified Health Assessment and up to date in immunizations, TB Test.
