Information Technology Specialist

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Information Technology Specialist is responsible for the security, governance, and day-to-day operation of Ganohkwasra’s information technology systems. The position works with external IT vendors, manages the Microsoft 365 environment, and makes sure Indigenous data sovereignty, OCAP® principles, and PHIPA-aligned privacy are built into the way technology decisions get made.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
• Post-secondary education in information technology, computer science, information systems, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will also be considered.
• Experience supporting IT operations, infrastructure, or systems administration.
• Experience coordinating the work of IT staff, contractors, or vendors.
• Experience administering a cloud-based environment such as Microsoft 365, including identity, access, and security.
• Experience managing external technology vendors, including contracts, documentation, and transitions.
• Technology, cloud, cybersecurity, or information-governance certifications are an asset. Applicants with equivalent experience and a willingness to pursue certification will also be considered.
• Must understand the impacts of family violence, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking on individuals, families, clans, Nations, and communities.
• Must understand the importance of data governance, confidentiality, privacy, and client safety in a community-based setting.
• Must provide three professional references.
• Must provide a current, favourable Police Record Check, including a Broad Record Check Report.
• Must possess a valid driver’s licence and a safe driving record (Driver Record Search).
• Preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous ancestry.

ABILITY:
• To lead Ganohkwasra’s IT function, including governance, security, planning, and vendor transition
• To manage the full Microsoft 365 environment, with the Microsoft 365 Systems Technician (if hired) as the operational counterpart
• To design and uphold IT policy, standards, and procedures aligned with OCAP® and PHIPA
• To build and maintain complete, current IT documentation held by Ganohkwasra, including network diagrams, licensing, credentials, backups, and vendor records
• To supervise, coach, and support staff and contractors in an objective, respectful, kind and sensitive manner
• To provide a quality working environment for staff
• To work independently without direct on-site supervision, while staying aligned with senior leadership
• To communicate clearly in speech and writing, translating technology decisions into language management and frontline staff can act on

DETAILED STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Information Technology Specialist is responsible for the delivery, administration, maintenance, and support of the organization’s information technology systems and related services.
Provide IT leadership and governance by:
• maintaining the Digital Transformation and Vendor Transition Strategy as an ongoing operating plan
• serving as the organization’s lead advisor on technology matters that affect client safety, staff wellbeing, and data sovereignty
• designing and maintaining IT policies, standards, and procedures that apply OCAP® and PHIPA to technology decisions
• sitting on internal committees and, where relevant, external committees
• liaising with sister organizations, Indigenous IT communities, and peer agencies to strengthen Ganohkwasra’s IT practice
Manage the Microsoft 365 platform and supporting infrastructure by:
• administering the full Microsoft 365 tenant, including Entra ID, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Exchange Online, Purview, and Intune
• designing and overseeing the rollout of Entra ID single sign-on and multi-factor
authentication across all four buildings
• designing SharePoint and OneDrive file structures
• overseeing the design, deployment, and operation of the zero-trust network across all four buildings
• overseeing Active Directory, Windows Server, endpoint management, and on-premise services
• applying Microsoft Purview best practices and industry standards
Lead cybersecurity, backup, and incident readiness by:
• maintaining the organization’s security posture, including identity, access, endpoint, email, and data-loss prevention
• maintaining tested backup and recovery procedures for all Ganohkwasra-owned systems
• leading incident response for IT events, with clear escalation paths to the Executive Director and, where appropriate, external partners
• conducting and documenting periodic access audits
• ensuring patching, monitoring, and vulnerability management are carried out on a regular schedule
Build internal capability by:
• planning and coordinating internal and external training and professional development
• mentoring staff and transferring knowledge to Ganohkwasra, so that Ganohkwasra builds its own capability
• planning, attending and participating in staff meetings as deemed necessary
• providing support to ensure skills obtained in professional development are utilized
• approving, guiding and monitoring succession leaders within IT
• Development of case management system documents ie. WISH
Conduct administrative and operational duties for IT services by:
• ensuring adherence to the contents of the Ganohkwasra Family Assault Support Services Operations Manual
• ensuring submission of all year-end reports to the Executive Director
• attending Board of Directors meetings as required
• working with the Manager of Financial Services to ensure program budgets are maintained
• purchasing staff IT equipment ie printers, monitors, etc
• assisting with any evaluation or review required by funding sources
• compiling, researching and assisting with funding applications and proposals
• participating in the annual review of policies and procedures and providing
recommendations
• attending regular individual supervision meetings
• performing all duties in the strictest confidence
• approving purchases when required
