MCFN is seeking a dedicated and caring Food Service Cook to join our Lifelong Learning team. In this role, you will play an essential part in supporting our Early Years and Llyod S. King Elementary School (LSK) programs by preparing nutritious, high-quality meals and snacks for children and program participants. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, values food safety and quality, and takes pride in contributing to positive experiences for children, families, and the community.

 

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

· Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with approved menus, nutritional guidelines, and food safety standards.

· Accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and cultural food preferences while ensuring quality and consistency in meal preparation.

· Maintain inventory levels and assist with ordering and stocking food and kitchen supplies.

· Support program activities, celebrations, and special events by providing food services for community gatherings and educational programs.

· Ensure the cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of kitchen facilities, equipment, dishes, and food preparation areas.

· Maintain required food safety, cleaning, maintenance, and temperature logs in accordance with health regulations.

· Promote a safe, welcoming, and collaborative environment while supporting the well-being of children, families, and program staff.

 

Qualifications & Experience

We are looking for candidates who bring:

· Diploma or certificate in Food Service, Institutional Cooking, Culinary Arts, or related program; or a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a high-volume food service environment.

· Experience preparing meals in institutional, childcare, healthcare, school, or catering settings.

· Knowledge of Canada's Food Guide, nutrition principles, food allergies, dietary restrictions, and safe food handling practices.

· Experience with large-batch meal preparation and maintaining food quality for large groups.

· Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet strict meal preparation and service schedules.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining high standards in a fast-paced environment.

· Caring, positive, and service-oriented approach, particularly when working in programs that support children and families.

Assets

· Safe Food Handlers Certification.

· WHMIS Training.

· First Aid and CPR Level C Certification.

· Knowledge of Indigenous foods, traditional food preparation, and cultural practices.
