CONSULTATION ASSISTANT

Department of Consultation and Accommodation // Full-Time Permanent

We are seeking a dedicated, organized, and community-minded Consultation Assistant who will play an essential role in supporting the consultation process and advancing MCFN's rights and interests. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys coordinating projects, managing information, building relationships, and contributing to meaningful work that supports Indigenous rights, environmental stewardship, and community development.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

· Receive, review, and process consultation notifications and project-related materials to identify immediate concerns and required actions.

· Upload and maintain consultation records and project documentation within DOCA's record-keeping systems.

· Coordinate meetings with Crown representatives, municipalities, proponents, internal staff, and other stakeholders.

· Track consultation activities and timelines, ensuring deadlines are met and follow-up actions are completed.

· Participate in consultation meetings and support the promotion of MCFN's rights and interests throughout the consultation process.

· Provide administrative and logistical support to the Consultation Unit while helping to maintain positive relationships with internal and external partners.

Qualifications & Experience

We are looking for candidates who bring:

· A College diploma in Public Administration, Communications, Indigenous Studies, or a related field; or a High School diploma/equivalent with at least one (1) year of experience in a relevant field such as Indigenous consultation or First Nation administration.

· An understanding of the Duty to Consult and Accommodate and MCFN Aboriginal and Treaty Rights.

· Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and related software.

· The ability to adapt to changing priorities, learn new concepts quickly, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

· The ability to successfully pass a Criminal Reference Check.

 

Assets

· Knowledge of government and municipal policies, regulations, and processes related to the Duty to Consult and Accommodate.

· Experience working with data management systems or databases.

· Experience working within a fast-paced, high-demand First Nation organization.
