The Grand Erie District School Board’s 2,800 employees provide quality education to approximately 26,000 full-time equivalent students who attend our 72 schools. The Board spans a geographic area encompassing the City of Brantford and the Counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk. Head office is located in Brantford. The Board is seeking an energetic, highly motivated and organized professional to join the Purchasing Department in Business Services.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Purchasing, the successful candidate will provide professional public procurement for all schools and supporting departments within the Board. Responsibilities include playing a key role in facilitating the centralized purchasing and contract support for operating goods and services requirements including providing support in the preparation, issuing and receipt of competitive bid opportunities as well as facilitating the requisition and purchase order process in accordance with the procedures for competitive bidding. Utilizing exemplary negotiation and competitive bid process management skills, the successful candidate will explore purchasing strategies, mediate, facilitate and resolve disputes in addition to providing advice, participating in cost control measures, and providing assistance and guidance to staff on best procurement practices in adherence to the Board’s Procurement Policy and Procedures.

Candidates must have post-secondary education (ie minimum community college program) in a related discipline. Certified Professional Public Buyer (C.P.P.B) designation or other recognized purchasing or supply chain management designation from an accredited association, organization, or institution is an asset. Verification of education and designation is required. A minimum of two years of experience in a similar role is also required, with a preference for experience in public sector purchasing. Candidates must also have demonstrated negotiation skills, excellent interpersonal, project/time management, attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills. The ability to communicate effectively, professionally and courteously with all levels of staff, external contacts and the general public to build collaborative relationships and be productive in a customer service environment is also required. Candidates must be well versed in the ethics, policies, procedures and relevant legislation of purchasing matters. The successful candidate must have proficiency with information technology and have a valid G drivers’ license.

Job Specifications

Hours of Work: 7 hours per day/35 hours per week

Rate of Pay: $62,746 – $71,303 A competitive benefits plan is available through a provincial benefits trust plan.
