JOB SUMMARY:
The Alternative Care Resource Team Member will be responsible, as assigned, for the development, support and evaluation of Customary Care/Alternative Care processes and homes. They are also responsible for the identification and monitoring/evaluation of other care resources accessed by Ogwadeni:deo, for assisting the Support Teams in accessing care resources (internal and external); for responding to adoption requests inclusive of disclosure inquiries; and for the performance of other related duties as determined by the Alternative Care Resource Team Lead.
The Alternative Care Resource Team Member will be responsible for ensuring that child protection services are delivered in accordance with the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA), Ontario Child Protection Standards, Ministry Children and Community Services (MCCS), Foster Care Licensing Standards, Child in Care Standards, as well with the policies, procedures, vision, mission and values of Ogwadeni:deo. The Alternative Care Resource Team Member will be responsible for managing client complaints in compliance with the complaint review process as outlined in the Ogwadeni:deo Policies and Procedures and the Child, Youth and Family Services (CYFSA)..

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a BSW from a recognized school of Social Work; or an undergraduate degree in another Social Science field and a willingness to work towards a BSW, or
- Must have a Social Work Certificate/Diploma in combination with over 5 years of frontline experience in Child Protection/Child and Family Services and be willing to upgrade educational credentials or already enrolled in a recognized BSW program
- Must have a minimum of 2 years practical experience in the field of child and family services and in particular, the development and support of alternative care resources
- Must possess a valid Ontario class “G” driver’s license
- Requires to be the principal driver of a vehicle for use on Pre-Designation/Designation business
- Must submit a favourable criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screening
- Must be willing to work flexible hours
- Will be Ogweho:weh in preference to other applicants

ALTERNATIVE CARE RESOURCE TEAM MEMBER
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Alternative Care Resource Team Member reports to and works under the direction of the Alternative Care Resource Team Lead and adhere to the guiding values of the Code of Practice.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION
The Alternative Care Resource Team Member will be responsible, as assigned, for the development, support and evaluation of Customary Care/Alternative Care processes and homes. RESPONSIBILITIES AND SUPPORT TO OGWEHO:WEH FAMILIES, CHILDREN AND YOUTH
- Reviews applications to provide Customary Care or Kotinonha inclusive of permanency requests, interviews applicants, conducts home studies, recommends selection for orientation/training to the Alternative Care Resource Team Lead and invites selected applicants to participate in training
- Assists with the development and delivery of orientation sessions to assist potential and “place of safety” caregivers in developing their commitment and understanding of the role; and assists with the monitoring/evaluation of these session
- Assesses potential and “place of safety” caregiver needs and assists with the development, delivery, monitoring/evaluation of appropriate training packages in accordance with Ogwadeni:deo policies and procedures and MCCS Standards save and except those approved for exemption
- Assists as assigned, Support Team Members with the selection of an appropriate placement of a child/youth in need of Kotinonha, with the provision of necessary information to the Sakotinonha provider and with the development of the plan of care
- Provides, as assigned, direct support to all Sakotinonha
- Interviews, as assigned, those requesting adoption information and provides them with an understanding of the procedures involved and the likely location of historical files
- Prepares, as assigned, adoptees and former family members for a meeting (where Ogwadeni:deo is the responsible organization and a meeting has been agreed to by the parties), facilitates the initial meeting if and as requested and provides post-meeting counselling if and as required
OGWADENI:DEO THE AGENCY
- Assists with the annual review of the content of the Alternative Care Resource Development program and recommends any needed changes to the Alternative Care Resource Team Lead
- Assists with the development and maintenance of an inventory of approved internal and external alternative care homes and external group, foster and institutional placement options and bed availability
- Assists with the establishment of any protocols required in relation to access to external care resources
- Assists with the monitoring and evaluation alternative care programs provided by external resources in relation to the needs of Ogwadeni:deo children and youth requiring alternative care are regularly evaluated
- Assists, as assigned, persons (adoptees or those looking to connect with adoptees) to make application to the adoption registry
- Conducts, as assigned, a file search and develops a social history for a former adoptee (for approval by the Team Lead in cases where files are held locally; and, if an adoptee’s files are not held locally, helps to locate and refers the request for information the relevant agency
- Ensures accurate documentation and timely reports according to Foster Care Licensing and approved Kotinonha policies and procedures.
HONEST AND MORAL CONDUCT
- Any financial matters shall adhere to Ogwadeni:deo approved financial policies
- Assists, as assigned, in consultation with the assigned Support Team Member(s), the appropriate subsidy level for each alternative care provider in relation to the level of support required by a particular child/youth placed in care
- Assists, as assigned, with the calculation of monthly subsidies and any additional eligible expenses and the filing of required supporting documentation for approval and release
- Participates the development of the annual budget and expenditure plan by assisting the Alternative Care Resource Team Lead to identify Care Resource Team support and programming requirements
BEING TRUTHFUL AND CONSISTENT
- Assists, as directed with the development of care resource recruitment information packages and with advertising the need for alternative care homes
- Assists, as assigned, in the process of maintaining regular communications with other community-based and external service providers
- Participates as directed in public forums, including the media, to communicate the responsibilities and practices of the Ogwadeni:deo Program and to develop and maintain public support
ASSISTING ONE ANOTHER
- Ensures the effective implementation of other duties as determined by the Alternative Care Resource Team Lead
- Assists with the process of monitoring the adequacy of existing policies, procedures and standards and of the organization structure, and developing recommended revisions where required
- Assists with the process of identifying and substantiating evolving needs of children, youth and their families and the design of services required to address changing needs
- Assists with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual services reporting as directed
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position, given that the primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of children/youth who are alleged to be and may be found to be need of protection and managing a team interacting with families in relation to sensitive issues can involve considerable mental and emotional stress, especially where the staff are involved in traumatic situations involving children and youth. It can also involve physically dangerous situations.

With the Ogwadeni:deo Alternative Care Resource Team Lead and other Unit Staff:
Takes direction from and works closely with the Alternative Care Resource Team Lead on a day-to-day basis in supporting the Director in fulfilling his/her obligations to the Ogwadeni:deo Community Commission, the Six Nations Community and Ogweho:weh families resident off reserve in the negotiated geographical jurisdiction
With Other Ogwadeni:deo Program Managers, Supervisors and Staff:
Provides information and assistance, and works in a cooperative and courteous manner in support of the Manager of Services and the Director in ensuring mutually-served clients receive the best possible, coordinated service
With The Community:
Acts as a role model and represents and promotes Ogwadeni:deo in a courteous, cooperative and professional manner
With the Ministry of Child and Community Services (MCCS):
Acts in a respectful manner in all communications with the Ministry to ensure compliance of standards, particularly, crown ward file review, cyclical reviews, inquests and serious occurrence reporting

The Alternative Care Resource Workers are responsible for the recruitment, training and on-going support of Kotinonha as approved by the Alternative Care Resource Team Lead in consultation with the Manager of Services.

Knowledge Requirements
The successful applicant:
- Must be thoroughly familiar with the relevant provincial legislation, regulations and guidelines
- Must be knowledgeable about the cultures and the significant characteristics of the social structure of Six Nations
- Must be thoroughly familiar with alternative care home policies and procedures
- Must have extensive knowledge of the range of methods and techniques involved in both traditional approaches to helping as well as contemporary social service work strategies
