Accounting Specialist
PRIMARY PURPOSE

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Accounting Specialist supports the financial management responsibilities of Six Nations Group and the Economic Development Trust. This role ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, maintains compliance with accounting standards and internal policies, and supports day-to-day finance operations.
The position contributes to organizational effectiveness by delivering high-quality financial analysis, strengthening internal controls, supporting audits, and collaborating across departments to enhance financial processes and decision-making.
DUTIES

1. Finance Operations
Completes account and bank reconciliations, investigates discrepancies, and supports month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accurate financial records. 30%
2. Accounts Receivable/Banking Responsibilities
Bank Reconciliations of all bank accounts, preparation of bank deposits, record all deposits including cash, cheques, EFT all debits and credits Prepare and processing of all AR invoicing, send out monthly statements and invoices as required. Work with Guest experience on rental invoices and outstanding receivable 20%
3. General Accounting
Prepare, enter, review, and post complex accounting entries, journal entries, accruals, and adjustments in accordance with accounting standards and internal policies. 15%
4. Compliance, Controls & Audit Support
Ensures compliance with accounting standards, policies, and regulatory requirements. Supports audit processes by preparing schedules and documentation and maintaining accurate audit trails. Identifies risks and supports corrective actions. 15%
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement
Collaborates with leadership and departments to improve financial processes, controls, and reporting. Supports documentation of procedures and implementation of best practices while building strong working relationships across the organization. 10%
6. Administrative & Other Duties
Reviews and uploads bingo sessions, ensures accuracy of related records, bingo cash reconciliations and performs other duties as assigned. 10%
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
The Accounting Specialist supports core finance functions across multiple entities within SNG, including financial reporting, reconciliations, and audit preparation. The role works closely with internal departments and leadership to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
This position contributes to both transactional accounting processes and higher-level financial analysis, requiring attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
KNOW-HOW
This role requires strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls. Experience with financial systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential.
The position demands attention to detail, analytical capability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
PROBLEM-SOLVING
The Accounting Specialist must exercise sound judgment in reconciling accounts, identifying discrepancies, and resolving financial issues. The Accounting Specialist is accountable for the accuracy and integrity of financial records, reporting, and reconciliations. Errors in judgment or execution may result in financial discrepancies, audit issues, compliance risks, or reputational impact to the organization.

SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
· University degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, or equivalent work experience.
· Chartered Professional Accountant or Chartered Financial Analyst designation preferred or working towards.
Experience:
· Minimum five (5) years of relevant finance experience.
· Experience with financial reporting, and reconciliations.
Knowledge and Skills:
· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
· Experience with accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct preferred).
· Knowledge of Canadian accounting standards, including not-for-profit accounting.
· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to communicate financial information clearly.
