Youth Wellness Worker.

 

The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre (HRIC) is a large Indigenous not for profit organization. We are culturally based, community focused, and committed to driving positive change for the community. The Youth Wellness Worker under the direction of the Executive Director, is responsible to work in collaboration with the Youth Wellness Centre providing support to at risk youth aged 16-24 years old around mental health and wellbeing and facilitating access to traditional teachings and ceremonies in a safe environment. The Indigenous Youth Wellness Worker will also ensure the effective delivery of the program with the primary focus being youth mental health, fostering a strong sense of well being and positive Indigenous identity. 

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • 2-year College diploma in Child and Youth Work, Mental Health, Indigenous Studies or a combination of education and experiences;
  • 2-years' experience working in an Indigenous organization or community;
  • Skilled in establishing trusting relationships with youth;
  • Experience in working from a youth centred approach regarding engagement, problem solving and community outreach;
  • Awareness of Indigenous culture and history, with particular emphasis on the impacts of trauma;
  • Ability to deliver programming from a cultural context to promote growth as the foundation for health and healing;
  • Clear understanding of various treatment options, prescribed/traditional medicines, and cultural practices encompassing a balanced lifestyle;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous community supports and services;
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain lasting working relationships with other departments, key business partners and other external agencies;
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and Database applications- statistical and narrative reporting;
  • First Aid/CPR and non-violent crisis intervention certification or be willing to be certified is an asset;
  • Valid driver’s licence with clear driving record and have access to reliable transportation is an asset;
  • Must have or obtain, within 30 days of hiring date, a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) CPIC as a condition of the employment

 

SALARY: $50,930.00/ per annum

 

 

HRIC is a highly flexible organization offering additional compensation including 5 paid cultural days, 4 paid holidays beyond mandatory Employment Standards, paid shutdown over the winter holiday week, and health benefits. HRIC health benefits are offered to full time permanent employees, employees will be able to enroll upon the successful completion of their (3) three- month probationary period.
