Hours: 35 hrs/wk.

Range: $22.94- $37.42 per hour

Location: 156 Galloway Rd., Scarborough Classification: Full-Time, 1-year contract Position: Unionized

 

Summary:

Native Child and Family Services of Toronto strives to provide a life of quality, well-being, caring and healing for our children and families in the Toronto Native Community. We do this by creating a service model that is culture- based and respects the values of Native people, the extended family, and the right to self-determination and through the integration of holistic, culturally based prevention services that are child centred, family focused, and community driven.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Reporting to the Supervisor, Family and Community Programs, the Youth Outreach Worker is responsible for:

 

  • Reaching out to and engaging at-risk Indigenous youth in accordance with the stages of change model which promotes assets, competencies, and
  • Developing programs for youth and
  • Providing a wide range of outreach/referral
  • Completing reports through the YOW database
  • Maintaining relationships with internal and external resources and partnering with community
  • Working collaboratively with the youth, parents and other stakeholders in the community to develop service delivery plans as a means of ensuring that the youth have access to services and opportunities for healthy development.
  • Helping to promote healthy relationships between the youth and their neighbourhoods and helping to raise awareness of the positive role of youth in the Indigenous
  • Implementing and maintaining strength and evidence based professional standards of practice within the program and adhering to service standards in accordance with the stages of change model, positive youth development framework and all relevant legislation, including the Child, Youth and Family Services
  • Engaging parents through existing community groups and educating them on matters such as
  • Performing other duties assigned by the Supervisor, Family and Community

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Work and two years of related
  • Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education in a related experience working with Indigenous youth will be considered.
  • An understanding of the unique dynamics that exist within First Nations, Inuit, and Métis
  • Knowledge and experience delivering group programs and workshops that incorporate strength based and evidence-based practices.
  • Excellent organizational, computer and communication

Native Child and Family Services of Toronto

  • A willingness to obtain and, subsequently, pass a Vulnerable Sector Police Reference
  • Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to, integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values in to practice, service and
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an

employee’s responsibility under current legislation.

  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity and build strong internal relationships.
