Title: Urban Agriculturalist
Reports to: Farm Team Lead
Hours: 40 hours per week
Rate of Pay: $28/hour
Term: Immediately – end of November 2025 to help finalize this year’s harvest and ensure winter preparation activities are completed.

Open and willing to extend a contract for the March 2026 – November 2026 season where there is a strong fit.

Role Overview We are seeking a passionate and experienced Urban Agriculturalist to oversee operations at McQuesten Urban Farm. This is more than a farming role—it’s an opportunity to plan, inspire, and make a tangible difference in the community. As the urban agriculturalist, you will apply your expertise in sustainable and organic farming to nurture the land and people it serves.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and execute daily farming operations, including planting, cultivation, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.
  • Implement organic and sustainable practices to maintain soil health and biodiversity.
  • Develop a diverse crop plan, including Indigenous plant varieties.
  • Manage irrigation, pest control, and crop rotation to optimize yields sustainably.
  • Collaborate with local organizations to distribute produce and engage with the community.
  • Serve as a resource for ecological education and advocacy at the farm.
  • Maintain and operate agricultural equipment and tools.

Experience & Skills:

  • 3+ years in an agriculturalist or comparable role with extensive organic farming experience.
  • Expertise in sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
  • Proven planning, organization, and project management abilities.
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Personal Qualities:

  • Passion for community engagement and environmental stewardship.
  • Resourceful, motivated, and energetic with a positive outlook.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Comfortable with physically demanding work in various weather conditions.

Working Conditions

  • Balance between indoor administrative work and outdoor farming activities,
  • Interact with community members, volunteers, and organizations.
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and operating machinery.

Preference for Indigenous Applicants
