Grand Erie District School Board represents more than 28,000 students in 58 elementary schools and 14 secondary schools within the City of Brantford and the counties of Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk, as well as students from Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. With a dedicated staff of more than 2,900, Grand Erie is committed to learning, leading and inspiring. The head office is located in Brantford.
POSITION: Beginning in September 2024, Grand Erie is offering the opportunity for students to explore English, Native Arts, Math, and Science through an empowering, culturally relevant, learning-from-the-land lens. Courses are taught with Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabe perspectives, and an Indigenous context brought to the curriculum. Half-days of learning will allow students to gain hands-on experiences fostering a deeper understanding of our relationships to the land, Indigenous ways of knowing, and the preservation of Indigenous knowledge and tradition. Classes will take place at Hagersville Secondary School, including access to greenhouse, and visits to significant sites and learning experiences within and around First nations’ communities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Preference will be given to candidates who are eligible for a valid Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate (OCT) of Qualification however, applications will also be accepted from those working towards their OCT, or from candidates who have the work and lived experience to support delivery of the curriculum. Candidates with Indigenous Ancestry are preferred.
