JOB SUMMARY:  

Oneida Nation of the Thames is a First Nation Settlement located near the City of London, Ontario. Standing Stone School offers programming from FDK through Grade 6, serving approximately 190 students.

The Social Education Worker delivers community-based prevention and intervention services to support the academic, social, and emotional development of First Nations students at Standing Stone School.

This role includes providing counselling, engaging families, collaborating with school staff, and coordinating with external organizations to support student well-being and success.

EDUCATION:

  1. Post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Indigenous Studies, Psychology, or a related field is required.
  2. Additional certification in crisis intervention, trauma-informed care, or youth mental health is considered an asset.
  3. Registration or eligibility for registration with a recognized professional college or association (e.g., Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers).

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum two (2) years of experience working with children and youth in educational, counselling, or community-based settings.
  2. Experience providing counselling, case management, and support services to children, youth, and families.
  3. Experience working within a First Nation community, with an understanding of intergenerational trauma, systemic barriers, and culturally appropriate supports.
