We are currently seeking a Sexual Violence Counsellor & Outreach Worker who is interested in working at the intersection of survivor support, community engagement, anti-human trafficking initiatives, and social change.

Our programs and services include:

  • Individual and group counselling for people of all genders aged 14 and older

  • Advocacy, accompaniment, and healing-based engagement

  • A 24-hour crisis and support line

  • Community outreach and education, including anti-human trafficking awareness and response

  • Opportunities for individuals and communities to engage in social change related to gender-based violence

  • Community presentations, workshops, and events

  • Volunteer opportunities that support survivor-centred work and prevention initiatives

Position Overview

The Counsellor & Outreach Worker provides trauma-informed counselling, advocacy, and outreach support to survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking.

Services are provided from our office in Brantford, with some remote service delivery. The successful candidate will also support outreach and engagement in communities across the County of Brant, including smaller and rural communities where access to services can be limited.

This role involves relationship-building with community partners and delivering services in both office-based and community settings.

This position is paid at $35 per hour and is a 12-month contract, with the possibility of renewal or expansion contingent on funding.

The successful candidate is expected to begin May 4, 2026.

Staff work as part of a collaborative team and have access to regular supervision, consultation, and opportunities for professional learning.

Responsibilities

  • Provide trauma-informed counselling, advocacy, and referral to service users of all genders aged 19 and over who are survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking.

  • Provide emotional and practical safety planning for individuals experiencing a current lack of safety.

  • Support service users in expanding their circle of support through referrals, resources, and therapeutic strategies.

  • Provide support, advocacy, and accompaniment for service users navigating medical, legal, and community systems.

  • Conduct outreach and healing-based engagement activities, including public education and relationship-building with community partners.

  • Support outreach and awareness initiatives related to sexual violence and human trafficking across Brantford and the County of Brant.

Core Requirements

  • A feminist analysis of sexual violence, including an understanding of how age, ability, race, Indigeneity, queerness, and trans identities impact experiences of violence and support-seeking.

  • A commitment to working within an anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and decolonial framework.

  • Trauma-informed counselling and/or advocacy experience in any setting.

  • The ability to manage multiple responsibilities, exercise sound judgment, and work both independently and collaboratively.

Assets

  • Experience working with survivors of sexual or gender-based violence and/or human trafficking.

  • Experience in healing-based engagement, outreach, or community education.

  • Familiarity with rural or small-community service delivery.

  • Studies (completed or in progress) that support this work.

  • Lived experience and community knowledge relevant to the work of SAC Brant are valued.

About the Configuration of This Position

This role supports both counselling/advocacy services and outreach/healing-based engagement work. We recognize that applicants may bring different skills, interests, and availability, and we are open to structuring the role accordingly.

The position may be configured as:

  • One combined role including both counselling/advocacy and outreach work; or

  • Two part-time roles, with one candidate focusing primarily on counselling and advocacy and another focusing primarily on outreach and community engagement.

Part-time roles may range from approximately 15–20 hours per week (including options such as 17.5 hours). The total hours associated with the position will not exceed 35 hours per week, and the final configuration will be determined through discussion with the successful candidate(s).

While weekday daytime availability is important for some aspects of the role, evening availability is an asset, particularly for counselling and community engagement. Occasional weekend availability may also be required for community outreach events. Scheduling will be developed collaboratively based on program needs and the availability of the successful candidate(s).
