POSITION SUMMARY

We are currently looking for Registered Practical Nurses, like you, to join our Inpatient team and gain valuable health care experience for your future. Our Inpatient Unit, has 23 beds and provides care for adult medical/surgical patients. Patients with a wide variety of clinical conditions are treated, including those who are recovering from surgeries, those hospitalized for acute conditions, and others who may be in the final stages of a progressive and chronic disease.

WHGH’s Medical team includes Nurses, Family Physicians, Pharmacists, Dietitian, Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy Assistants, Ward Clerks, and Volunteers.

DUTIES

1.       RPN’s practice in accordance with the Standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario and policies and procedures of WHGH

2.       R.P.N. basic skills and Added Nursing Skills according to the policies and procedures at WHGH

3.       RPNs seek collaboration with RNs in patient situations that are beyond their scope

4.       Demonstrates critical thinking and decision making in assessment and problem identifications

5.       Engage in daily unit activities that contribute to overall quality of patient care

6.       Accountable individually for their decisions and practice

7.       Maintains a safe environment

8.       Knowledge and skill in developing collaborative working relationships

9.       Communicate effectively with other members of the health care team and patients

10.   Utilizes appropriate and professional communication skills (i.e. written, computerized, verbal and nonverbal) for the benefit of the patient, health care team and health care facility.

11.   Exhibits knowledge and participation in safety programs and practice that protects the patient, self, and health care team members

12.   Safety (patient, worker & workplace) is a WHGH Corporate Priority.  The successful applicant will demonstrate good stewardship in the identification, reporting and mitigation of unsafe acts or conditions.

13.   Past attendance record will be part of the selection process. Other duties as assigned

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1.       Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses as a Registered Practical Nurse.

2.       Current B.C.L.S. (Basic Cardiac Life Support).

3.       Proficient in Meditech.

4.       Asepsis course is an asset.

5.       Recent experience on a Medical or Complex Continuing Care unit within the last two years.

6.       Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.

7.       Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, interpersonal skills and problem solving.

8.       Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.

9.       Past performance and attendance record will be considered as part of the selection process.
