POSITION DESCRIPTION

                       

MAINTENANCE/HOUSEKEEPER WORKER(S)– Summer Student

EARLY YEARS AND CHILDCARE, SOCIAL SERVICES

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

 

Reports to the Supervisor of Early Years and Childcare or designate.

 

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

 

The Maintenance Worker/Housekeeper summer student(s) is a trainee experience position and will assist with general cleaning, maintenance, assembly of furnishings, and minor repairs within the Early Years and Childcare facility, maintenance of grounds as necessary, garbage removal to assist maintenance staff and housekeeper during summer months.   The Housekeeper position supports classroom laundry and cleaning duties as directed.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. TECHNICAL:
  • Follow a systematic maintenance/housekeeper schedule as assigned and required
  • Cleaning of building in accordance with needs on daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal duty.
  • Grounds maintenance for Maintenance summer student, which includes but is not limited to, grass cutting, in the summer months.
  • Maintain any tools and equipment, etc. under his/her care and control.
  • Housekeeper summer student provides classroom support, classroom deep cleaning and windows and assists Housekeeper and day Maintenance staff as necessary

 

  1. ADMINISTRATIVE:
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies, daily cleaning logs as necessary
  • Record in and complete daily logs as necessary.
  • Submit time sheets as necessary.

 

  1. COMMUNICATIONS & LIAISON
  • Attend meetings/training as required or directed.
  • Report any repair work that is noted, as needed.
  • Follow and report damage according to procedures, cleaning or supply needs to the daytime Maintenance, Housekeeper or Supervisor.

 

 

 

 

 

  1. OTHER RELATED DUTIES:

 

Any other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Housekeeper, Day Maintenance Worker or designate and participation in the Six Nations Community Emergency Measures Plan.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • Work may involve lifting and moving furnishings, supplies and equipment.
  • Works in a climate-controlled environment except for daily outside work.
  • Works alone at times and must demonstrate self- discipline and self- initiative
  • Cell phones are to be used only on break.

 

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

 

With  the Supervisor,  Day Maintenance Worker and Early Years and Childcare

 

Receives direction and guidance.  Discusses plans, priorities and interacts to ensure tasks are done efficiently and effectively; receives instruction and supervision.

Works cooperatively with staff/other agencies with courtesy, cooperation and teamwork.

Provides information and assistance.  Works in a cooperative and courteous manner.

 

With the Community

 

Represents and promotes Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council,  and Social Services in a courteous, cooperative and professional manner.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Secondary School student

Knowledge of health and safety procedures

Willingness to follow directions and work independently

Valid transportation in order to arrive to duties in a timely manner

Up to date immunization record

Current VSC/Police check  and Health Assessment if over 18

 

Other Preferred Qualifications

 

Good communication skills; verbal and written.

Aware of community diversity concerning culture, values, and customs

Knowledgeable of the impacts of multi-generational trauma on families and the community

 

 

IMPACT OF ERROR:

 

Errors in judgment and in the conduct of duties could lead to loss of credibility, poor public relations, public confusion, serious impacts on clients and staff, and legal liability to self and to Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council.

 

CONTROL:

 

Works within the organizational structure and administrative policy and procedures established by the Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council Employment Policy.

 

Works within the Six Nations of the Grand River Social Services values, principles, and mission statement.

 

Works within the policies and procedures established through service contract by the Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council and the funding agency.
