The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre is currently accepting applications for the new position of Indigenous Peer Support Program Worker.

The Indigenous Peer Support Program Worker under the direction of the Executive Director or Designate will provide networks of support and mentorship to urban Indigenous people released from custody or in circumstances including but not limited to; conditional sentence, probation or parole as they seek to improve their mental health, reduce harms associated with their behaviours, avoid justice system recidivism, and pursue a Good Mind. 

The Indigenous Peer Support Program Worker will facilitate the development of a peer network comprising of people with experience with justice involvement and with mental health and/or addictions concerns, who can work together in achieving the Good Mind. The Program Worker serves urban Indigenous community members under community supervision orders and builds effective partnerships with mainstream community agencies, advocating broadly wherever necessary to improve both health and justice-system outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post secondary diploma/certificate in Social Service Work, Community Justice, and/or Indigenous Studies or related equivalent education and/or experience, skills, and abilities as determined by the Executive Director;
• 2 years of demonstrated work experience working with justice involved individuals;
• Experience working in an Indigenous organization is an asset;
• Experience in program planning, development, implementation, facilitation, data collection and evaluation; 
• Experience with case management;
• Strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history;
• Knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous supports and services; 
• High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment; 
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training and experience is an asset;
• First Aid/CPR certification or be willing to be certified; 
• Skilled in use of Microsoft Office/365 applications and other databases;
• Valid driver’s licence with clear driving record is an asset: and,
• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

HOURS OF OPERATION: Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm (8-hour shift within these hours of operation), occasional evenings/weekends

SALARY RANGE: $51,345.00-$57,050.00 per annum
