Job Title: Indigenous Mental Health and Wellness Program Coordinator Particulars: 32 Hours per week

Job Purpose:
The Indigenous Mental Health and Wellness Program provides wholistic and culture-based supports to be responsive to the needs of mental health and addictions for urban Indigenous individuals and families, with a focus on trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches. IMHWP workers deliver individual and group services including peer counselling, sharing circles and other traditional and land-based activities that support the achievement of a Good Mind.
Education:
- Relevant Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Mental Health and/or related training and minimum of 2 years work
Experience/Job Requirements:
- Experience in program development, design, implementation and evaluation
- Practical work experience in social work, psychology and/or mental health services (minimum of 2 years preferred)
- Proficiency in the use of computers, word processing and data base software
- Experience in case management, case conferencing and compiling statistics
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills, as well as presentation, human relations and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability in working with Indigenous people, communities and organizations with an understanding of Indigenous culture, traditions and language
- Able to work flexible schedule, including extended hours or weekends as required
- Must have a valid Ontario Drivers’ License or access to an insured vehicle for client transportation and able to travel
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Link and network with culturally appropriate Indigenous and non-Indigenous agencies, organizations, services, to promote and provide services for Indigenous people who are experiencing mental health
- Promote and organize culturally appropriate, social, recreational and program activities that minimize the negative effects of mental health in the Indigenous individual, family, and community
- Provide culturally appropriate Indigenous alternatives to existing mainstream programs
- Work with other Can-Am Indian Friendship Centre programs and staff to promote a co- ordinated approach to the Healing and Wellness Team
- Promote the program via design and distribution of flyers, brochures and presentations to organizations/agencies and at community events
- Provide referrals to or service co-ordination of counseling, legal, and/or treatment services for individuals and families experiencing a crisis or traumatic event, including liaise with mainstream services to facilitate case
- Provide one-on-one peer support counseling as needed
- Maintain an up-to-date and confidential client record keeping system and
- Participate with program initiatives, and ensure reporting requirements are accurate, complete and submitted in a timely manner, by the program management policy
- Perform other such duties as may be assigned from time to time i.e. newsletter submission, CAIFC events coordination and planning, attend staff meetings and able to travel as
SALARY: NEGOTIABLE, based on qualifications.
