Organization:         Can-Am Indian Friendship Centre of Windsor Job Title:                      Indigenous Housing Outreach Coordinator Particulars:            32 Hours per week

Job Purpose:

The Indigenous Housing Outreach Coordinator works in partnership with the Indigenous Housing Advocate to provide housing supports to unsheltered Indigenous community members. The coordinator provides outreach support by identifying and connecting with unsheltered Indigenous community members and providing culturally responsive resources.

 

Education:

  • Relevant Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in Social/Human Services, Indigenous Studies and/or related training and minimum of 2 years work experience

 

Experience/Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in working with Indigenous communities with knowledge of traditional and cultural teachings
  • Understanding of Indigenous homelessness and Indigenous harm reduction
  • Demonstrated strengths in problem-solving, crisis intervention, group dynamics, community development and other innovative approaches
  • Experience in program development, design, implementation and evaluation
  • Experience in case management, case conferencing and compiling statistics
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills, as well as presentation, human relations and communication skills
  • Able to work flexible schedule, including extended hours or weekends as required
  • Must have a valid Ontario Drivers’ License or access to an insured vehicle for client transportation and able to travel

 

Responsibilities:

  • Identify families and/or individuals living in unsheltered housing conditions
  • Offer compassionate care and support to community members who may be experiencing homelessness, social stigma, unbalanced mental wellness, trauma and/or substance use
  • Build relationships with unsheltered community members that may be reluctant to access support services
  • Advocate on behalf of the clients to secure services
  • Link and network with culturally appropriate Indigenous and mainstream agencies, organizations and services to create a pathway to long-term stable housing
  • Refer individuals and/or families to services and supports
  • Maintain an up-to-date and confidential client records keeping system and database
  • Provide one-on-one peer support as
  • Participate with program initiatives, and reporting requirements as directed and adopted by the program management policy
  • Perform other such duties as may be assigned from time to time i.e. newsletter submission, CAIFC events coordination and planning, attend staff meetings

 

 

SALARY: NEGOTIABLE, based on qualifications.
