Position: Indigenous Homeward Bound Coordinator
Start date: ASAP following hire
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week. May include evenings, weekends and special event work as required by position
The successful candidate will be employed by the Fort Erie Native Cultural Centre Incorporated, responsible to the policies and procedures determined by the Board of Directors and under the daily supervision of the Executive Director or his/her delegate.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
Aims to systematically address the barriers sole-parenting Indigenous women face when trying to find meaningful employment, enhanced wellbeing, and prosperity for themselves and their children. IHBFE is founded on the provision of key supports such as housing, access to culture, childcare, education and life-skills, transportation, case coordination, health access and mental health supports. IHBFE culminates in post-secondary attainment and opportunities for career-track employment at family sustaining salaries.
Education/Work Experience:
- Minimum 2 - year diploma in Social Work and/or life experience that complements the position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Understanding and commitment to the needs, barriers, and goals of Indigenous clientele, particularly Indigenous Women
- Willingness to support Indigenous women in reaching their employment and training goals
- Applications for supportive housing
- Budget management
- Proposal writing and fundraising
- Arranging and attending Housing meetings to keep people informed and engaged
- Work with various housing organizations, Indigenous and mainstream and develop MOU’s as required
- Collaborate with OFIFC and ONWA for policy information as necessary
- Arrange and facilitate workshops and presentations as needed
- Meet with possible candidates for housing
- Meet with various Elders and resource individuals for curriculum development
- Intakes/Referrals/Advocacy
- Management of Rent Supplements
- Must be willing to travel
- Evening and weekend work as necessary for the delivery of some programs, special activities and events
KNOWLEDGE
- Culture - Takes personal responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness and implementation of FENCC foundational teachings and organizational practices in both professional conduct and work-related deliverables.
- Knowledge and experience in Indigenous community development.
- Ability to monitor and manage budgets and provide appropriate record keeping
- Experienced successful curriculum creation
- Self-Motivator with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Superior ability to work to deadlines with minimum supervision
- Strong listening, oral and written communication skills
- High proficiency in Excel and other MS Office applications
- Management of Rent Supplements
- Advocacy for participants as needed
- Must have a current, clear, vulnerable sector police check.
- Must have a clean driver's abstract and a current driver's license.
