Job description

The Hamilton-Wentworth Chapter of Native Women’s Inc.* is currently accepting applications for the position of Homemaker .

The Homemaker , under the direction of the Executive Director, will be responsible for developing a monthly menu, purchasing items, meal preparation, cooking of nutritious well-balanced meals/snacks, and clean up of various spaces.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain an adequate supply of non-perishable, fresh and frozen foods;
  • Planning, ordering/purchasing, preparing and cooking of resident meals based on menu;
  • Monitoring of fridges and freezers, storage, supplies, and cleanliness of the kitchen and surrounding area according to Public Health Guidelines;
  • Disinfect various high used areas including fridges, freezers, stove, counters, etc;
  • Engaging with clients and community members in a respectful, non-judgmental and supportive way that helps to improve their health and well-being, develop skills, increase their sense of belonging, and build resilience;
  • Incorporate Indigenous culture as a way of being and knowing in the organization;
  • Report all disclosures, incidents, serious occurrences to appropriate contact

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College diploma in social services or closely related field and experience in associated field;
  • Knowledge of and experience working with a range of issues impacting youth, women and children including homelessness, violence against women and children, poverty, mental health and substance use;
  • Understanding of family violence and the dynamics of abuse and its effects on individual, family and community;
  • Demonstrates Indigenous cultural competency including awareness, knowledge and understanding of the impacts of colonialism and systemic issues;
  • Experience performing light cleaning, laundry, and cooking duties;
  • Food Handlers Certification and knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide;
  • Must have or obtain, within 30 days of hiring date, a Vulnerable Sector CPIC.

SALARY: $23.00/hr (Pay: Up to $23.00 per hour)

JOB TYPE: 10:00am-6:00pm Monday to Friday (FULL TIME)
