A.                 PURPOSE

 

The Greenhouse Worker is responsible for overall Greenhouse functions with other team members of Kayanase.

In support of Kayanase’s goal of providing quality products and services, this position shall continuously strive to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively with other staff to provide quality

Minimum Grade 10 with a willingness to actively learn Knowledge in horticulture &/or nursery production Knowledge of Native plants

Strong desire to preserve & restore the natural environment Ability to work in all kinds of weather

Physically fit & hardworking, able to lift minimum of 50 lbs. Excellent interpersonal & communication skills

Ability to collect data in an organized & detail specific manner Ability to take direction, follow instruction & be a team player Willingness to work flexible hours including some evenings Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

Summary of Major Duties:

Greenhouse Services: Conduct overall greenhouse & nursery production functions including watering, weeding, upgrading of plants to larger containers, cleaning, & moving plants. Prepare & assemble plants for order. All other duties as assigned by Plant Production Lead.

Administration: Collect data related to seed collection, cleaning, sowing & up potting in an organized & detailed, specific manner. Complete discard sheets, JARR cards & create labels.

F.                 WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Physical Effort: Majority of time is spent walking in the greenhouse & field. Physical demands also include standing, heavy lifting (minimum of 50 lbs.), reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching, frequent bending & shoveling.

 

Physical Environment: Located mainly in an outdoor setting. Unpleasant conditions due to weather, dust & dirt. Noise level is usually quiet to moderate & can be loud when operating machinery.

 

Sensory Attention: Requires frequent periods of concentration to accomplish tedious exacting work with frequent change of tasks.

 

Mental Stress: Moderate level of tension and anxiety due to deadlines or extreme weather conditions. Works closely with others as part of a team.
