“Food Service Assistant”

Lifelong Learning Department | Full-Time, Permanent (25 hours/wk. & 37.5 hours/wk.)

We are seeking two (2) reliable, flexible, and community-minded Food Service Assistants to support our food programs serving Child Care and Lloyd S. King Elementary School. This role plays an important part in ensuring children and youth have access to nutritious meals in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

· Support the daily preparation and service of meals and snacks for breakfast, lunch, and after-school programs

· Assist with food preparation tasks including washing, chopping, portioning, and measuring ingredients

· Follow all food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling procedures in kitchen and service areas

· Package, label, and distribute food items in accordance with menu plans and program needs

· Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and cafeteria through routine sanitation and organization practices

· Support inventory, storage, and proper food rotation practices (including FIFO and community fridge maintenance)

· Assist with dishwashing, laundry operations, and general kitchen upkeep

· Communicate effectively with team members and report supply needs to Food Service Leads

· Contribute to a culturally respectful, team-oriented environment while supporting additional programming (e.g., garden, classroom cooking, life skills) as needed.

 

Qualifications & Experience

We are looking for candidates who bring:

· High school diploma and minimum 18 years of age

· Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

· Physical capability to perform active work including lifting (up to 50 lbs), standing, and bending

· Willingness to obtain Safe Food Handler Certification, First Aid, and CPR (training provided)

· Current satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening and Health Assessment

· Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends and attend training as required

Assets:

· Previous food service or kitchen experience

· WHMIS training

· Knowledge of basic food preparation techniques

· Experience working within First Nation or community-based environments
