Finance Intern

The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is a nonprofit organization that provides technical advisory services, training, and capacity development to First Nations communities in Ontario.  By offering a wide range of specialized services and expertise, OFNTSC helps to enhance the quality of life, promote self-sufficiency, and foster economic growth within these communities.

Under the guidance of the Finance Controller the Finance Intern will assist our Finance Department with daily operations.  As a Finance Intern, your responsibilities would include assisting with financial analysis by gathering and analyzing data, aiding in month-end procedures such as journal entries and reconciliations, maintaining accurate financial records through data entry and reconciliation, and supporting the finance team with administrative tasks and special projects as assigned.

These tasks must be executed in alignment with the culture and values of OFNTSC while maintaining strict confidentiality.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with financial analysis, including gathering data, performing calculations, and preparing reports.
  • Assists the Finance Controller with month-end entries and procedures, including journal entries, accruals, and reconcilations.
  • Help maintain accurate financial records by entering data into accounting software and reconciling accounts.
  • Prepares bank deposits on an as-needed basis.
  • Assists in preparing, entering, and reconciling weekly Accounts Payable batches.
  • Ensures the secure handling and storage of confidential documents.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned, such as financial audits, and process improvements.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed to support the finance team, such as filing documents, organizing files, scheduling meetings, and note taking.

Qualifications:

  • Completed the first year of a Bachelor's degree in Business or College Diploma in Accounting or Business or similar field with plans to continue.
  • Previous experience working in accounting or a similar role in the Finance Department or administrative experience is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Google Suites, Excel, and/or SAGE is an asset.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, and analyze financial data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and individual environment.
  • Proactive attitude with a willingness to take on new challenges and learn from experiences.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills with the ability to manage and handle multiple tasks.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a strong work ethic.

Conditions:

  • Some out-of-town traveling is required through the province of Ontario.
  • Reliable and insured vehicle and Valid class G driver’s license.

*Priority will be given to First Nations applicants who meet the mandatory requirements.
