Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:30a.m. to 4:30p.m., must be flexible to align work schedule with program requirements which may include evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Finance Assistant provides administrative, clerical, and financial support to the Finance Manager within the Ontario Works Department. This position plays an important role in supporting the financial administration of Ontario Works (OW), Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), Employment Assistance, and the Transitional Support Fund.

The Finance Assistant is responsible for assisting with accounts payable and receivable, payment processing, purchase orders, financial reporting, reconciliations, and records management. The position also supports the preparation of financial documentation, maintains accurate financial records, assists with budgeting activities, and responds to inquiries from clients, vendors, and program staff.

Working closely with the Finance Manager and departmental staff, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while ensuring compliance with departmental policies, funding requirements, and applicable legislation.

EDUCATION:

  1. Post-Secondary Diploma in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business Administration, Office Administration, Finance, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum two (2) years of experience in a finance, accounting, bookkeeping, or administrative support role.
  2. Experience processing accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchase orders, invoices, and financial records.
  3. Experience working with accounting and financial management software, including Sage 300 (or equivalent).
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  5. Valid Class “G” driver’s license and use of company vehicle is required.
