Applicants from Six Nations and other First Nations will be given preference to deliver programs and services in a First Nations community.

 

JOB SUMMARY: The role of the FLIC/CLIC worker is to receive intake calls from potential clients, who call in with a legal issue and want to speak with a lawyer for advice. The FLIC/CLIC worker will screen the calls and determine what area of law the client needs advice in, Family law, Child Protection (CYFSA), or Criminal law. The worker will complete intake and prepare a schedule for the panel lawyer assigned to attend the legal clinic next. The worker also allows the client an opportunity to discuss their case, confirm which area of law, then obtain all necessary consents to allow the client to prepare their plan. The worker may further refer the client to other Justice or Social Services programs that may support and benefit them. The worker will contact LAO, to assist the client apply for a LAO Certificate.

 

The FLIC/CLIC Worker reports to and works under the direct supervision of the Director/Staff Lawyer of Justice, in collaboration with Social Services and in cooperation with Legal Aid Ontario (LAO), who fund the panel lawyers that provide legal advice to the FLIC/CLIC clients.
