Elementary/Secondary Education Advisor

Department of Lifelong Learning | Full-Time Permanent

We are seeking a passionate, student-focused, and culturally responsive Elementary/Secondary Education Advisor who will play an essential role in supporting the academic, social, emotional, and cultural success of MCFN students and their families. This position works closely with students, schools, families, and community partners to promote educational achievement, strengthen cultural identity, and support positive transitions from elementary to secondary education.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

· Provide culturally relevant educational supports and advocacy for MCFN students and families.

· Support Grade 7 and 8 students in their transition to secondary school through academic, cultural, and summer programming.

· Meet with students individually and in groups to promote academic success, social-emotional wellbeing, and personal growth.

· Plan, coordinate, and deliver cultural education initiatives, workshops, field trips, Elder programming, and traditional activities.

· Build and maintain strong relationships with students, families, school boards, service providers, and community partners.

· Advocate for the educational, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of Indigenous learners.

· Maintain confidential student records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and reporting requirements.

· Support annual work planning, program evaluation, data collection, and reporting activities.

· Assist school boards and educational partners in advancing Indigenous knowledge and culturally safe learning opportunities.

· Represent MCFN through partnerships, committees, networking opportunities, and educational initiatives that support student success.

Qualifications & Experience

We are looking for candidates who bring:

· College Diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Services, or a related field.

· Minimum two (2) years of experience working directly with Indigenous youth.

· Knowledge of Indigenous culture, beliefs, practices, parenting approaches, and the impacts of historical and intergenerational trauma.

· Understanding of relevant legislation, including First Nations governance and the Child, Youth and Family Services Act.

· Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Canva.

· Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and relationship-building skills.

· Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with schools, community partners, and First Nation organizations.

· Strong organizational, analytical, and multitasking abilities, including experience collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data.

· Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and adapt to changing priorities.

· Valid Class G Driver's License, reliable vehicle

· Ability to obtain required certifications (First Aid/CPR, Safe Food Handler),

· Ability to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

· Experience in group facilitation and culturally responsive youth programming is considered an asset.
