            POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:                                                 Day Camp Leader

    KANIKONRIIO (GOOD MIND) CHILD & YOUTH PROGRAMS

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Manager of the Kanikonriio (Good Mind) Child and Youth Programs, Six Nations of the Grand River Social Services.

PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The Day Camp Leader will provide supervision, safety, assistance, and program support to children/youth participating in the summer day camp program. The Day Camp leader will provide weekly implementation and participation in all program plans and will be responsible for other related duties as may be assigned by the Manager of Kanikonriio (Good Mind) Child and Youth Programs.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Day Camp leaders are expected to participate in training and orientation by:

1. Attending and fully participating in all training and orientation as directed
2. Attending weekly debriefing sessions for program enhancements
   • Ensure the completion and maintenance of all administrative correspondence, financial and statistical records by:
     1. Keeping and submitting all invoices and receipts as required
     2. Taking daily attendance of children
     3. Documentation of all incident or accident on reporting forms and notifying parents
     4. Ensuring evaluations are completed at the end of each week for participants and parent/guardian.
   • Implements the daily/weekly approved program plan by:
     1. Ensuring adequate supplies/resources are available to implement each component of the program i.e. crafts, sports equipment
     2. Completing camp site preparation and closure requirements.
     3. Facilitating and leading group activities including reading, storytelling circles, sports activities, craft activities and snack times
     4. Closely supervising and supporting children/youth to ensure safety and full participation
     5. Encouraging children/youth to welcome new experiences/activities
     6. Initiating daily contact if possible with parent(s)/guardian(s) to inform them of what their children/youth have done that day.
     7. Clean up of required areas for crafts, sports, food etc.

  Other Functions –       

Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Kanikonriio Child and Youth Programs, Six Nations Social Services.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Work may require interaction with the public; is subject to deadlines, and may include some unscheduled hours.
• Flexibility of working hours will be required (evenings
• Ability to take direction, prioritize and work independently.
• May involve some travel in/outside of the community as required using own transportation and could include air travel.
• Must respect the Privacy Act and adhere to confidentiality.
• Outdoor work will be required on occasion.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications

• Will be enrolled in a post-secondary school.
• Will be willing to work flexible hours.
• Ability to pass criminal check and child abuse registry check. 

• Will be knowledgeable about Haudenosaunee Culture and the contemporary characteristics of any social issues within the Six Nation’s social structure.
• Preference will be given to Six Nations of the Grand River Band Members, persons of Haudenosaunee ancestry, or persons of Indigenous ancestry.

Other Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent written and oral communications skills.
• Good organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a strong team player; good interpersonal skills including working cooperatively with other staff
• Will have experience working with children
• Must have computer knowledge
• Knowledgeable in Haudenosaunee culture and the contemporary characteristics of the Six Nations social structure.
• Must have a valid CPR and First Aid Certification
• Effectively supervise/support and ensure safety of children
• To be able to work with a genuine interest and be a caring role model to children
• Ability to analyze problems, recommend and implement solutions.
• Domestic duties included with job

IMPACT OF ERROR:

Errors in judgment/decisions could result in vicarious liabilities to Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council and both direct and vicarious liability to the Chief Executive Officer and to the Director of Social Services and staff.  Errors in conduct of duties could result in the jeopardizing or loss of program funding, poor staff relations, poor client/public relations, public confusion, loss of credibility.

Works within the organizational structure and administrative policy and procedures established by Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council.

Works within the Six Nations of the Grand River Social Services Department values, principles, and mission statement.

Works within the policies and procedures established through service contracts by the Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council and the funding agencies.
