JOB SUMMARY:  

The Cultural Wellness Worker provides culturally grounded, trauma‑informed support to individuals and families impacted by violence, including family violence, gender‑based violence, and intimate partner violence. Rooted in Oneida and Haudenosaunee ways of knowing, this role helps clients reconnect with identity, teachings, language, land, and ceremony as part of their healing journey.

The Cultural Wellness Worker supports residents of the Oneida Family Healing Lodge (OFHL) and the broader community through one‑on‑one counselling, safety and support planning, sharing circles, and culturally based programming. The position addresses the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual impacts of violence, addictions, and intergenerational trauma.

This role also contributes to cultural education for staff, advocates for culturally safe services, participates in community outreach, and ensures all practices reflect Oneida/Haudenosaunee values, protocols, and community priorities.

EDUCATION:

  1. A Social Service Worker Diploma is preferred; candidates currently enrolled in a Social Service Worker program or those with equivalent or related education may also be considered.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Extensive knowledge of Oneida culture, history, traditions, and community practices.
  2. Demonstrated experience providing counselling or therapeutic support to individuals and families impacted by trauma, family violence, gender-based violence, or intimate partner violence.
  3. Lived experience as a community helper, caregiver, or cultural support person is considered an asset.
  4. A valid Class “G” driver’s license and use of a company vehicle are required.

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO STARTING EMPLOYMENT:

  1. The successful candidate must submit a Vulnerable Sector Check (completed within a 30-day timeframe), at their own expense.
  2. The successful candidate must submit a copy of valid Class “G” driver’s license and a driver abstract (completed within a 30-day timeframe), at their own expense.
  3. The successful candidate must submit a copy of applicable educational qualifications (certificates, diplomas, degrees, etc.).
