Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., must be flexible to align work schedule with program requirements which may include some evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays

JOB SUMMARY:  

The Cook and Nutritional Wellness Worker is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious and culturally appropriate meals for women, children, and families residing at the Oneida Family Healing Lodge. As a member of a trauma-informed and culturally safe team, this position supports the healing journey of Indigenous clients by maintaining a welcoming, respectful, and nourishing kitchen environment.

Key responsibilities include meal preparation, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, ensuring compliance with food safety standards, and working with shelter staff to meet a range of dietary, spiritual, and cultural needs.

The Cook and Nutritional Wellness Worker may also support community food programming, including traditional food teachings and workshops, when appropriate.

EDUCATION:

  1. A Post-Secondary Certificate or Diploma in Food Services, Culinary Arts, or a related field is preferred.
  2. Valid Safe Food Handling certification is required.
  3. Current First Aid/CPR certification is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Demonstrated experience preparing meals for groups in a community, residential, shelter, or institutional setting.
  2. Understanding of, or willingness to learn about the Oneida culture, traditional foods, and community wellness practices.
  3. Experience in planning menus that consider allergies, dietary restrictions, and health conditions (e.g., diabetes-friendly, vegetarian).
  4. A valid Class “G” driver’s license and use of company vehicle is required.

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO STARTING EMPLOYMENT:

  1. The successful candidate must submit a Vulnerable Sector Check (completed within a 30-day timeframe), at their own expense.
  2. The successful candidate must submit a copy of valid Class “G” driver’s license and a driver abstract (completed within a 30-day timeframe), at their own expense.
  3. The successful candidate must submit a copy of applicable educational qualifications (certificates, diplomas, degrees, etc.).
