is accepting applications for the permanent full-time position of

“CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH WORKER”

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for providing support to the community by identifying individuals who are in a high-risk situation or expressing early signs and symptoms, providing individual/group counselling and service planning for children/youth up to 18 years of age, and assisting with the general unit administration.

 

Mandatory Requirements/Educational Qualifications

  • University degree in Social Work, a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and five (5) years counseling experience working in Children’s Mental Health OR
  • University degree in Psychology with five (5) years counseling experience working in Children’s Mental Health
  • A member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, or College of Psychotherapists.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Assets

  • Working knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act
  • Be knowledgeable about Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation culture and social structure
  • Be familiar with traditional approaches to helping
  • Be familiar with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation human services principles, policy and other service resources
  • Have extensive knowledge of therapeutic intervention and of the range of evidence-based treatment modalities that are employed in prevention
  • Solid background in computers with specific knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • To work cooperatively with other staff and management
  • Relate effectively to community members
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act
  • ASIST and Safe Talk Training

 

Required Knowledge and Abilities

  • Class “G” Drivers licence
  • Must have a satisfactory result from a Criminal Record Check including a vulnerable sector check.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain by the end of the probationary period
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends
  • Must have a Safe Food Handler’s Certification or be willing to obtain one
