Overview:

The Hamilton-Wentworth Chapter of Native Women’s Inc. is currently accepting applications for the position of Child and Youth Worker.
The Child and Youth Worker, under the direction of the Executive Director, will provide physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social programming, case management and direct supports to foster improved outcomes for children, youth and families accessing our services.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Engage with clients in a respectful, non-judgmental and supportive way that helps to improve their health and well-being, develop life skills, increase their sense of belonging, and build resilience.
  • Complete intakes, case management / goal setting, safety planning, case notations, discharge planning
  • Liaison with the Hamilton School Boards.
  • Liaison with Child Welfare agencies.
  • Provide crisis intervention, when required.
  • Develop, implement, facilitate individual and/or group programming relevant to client needs.
  • Perform light cleaning, laundry and cooking duties, as required
  • Ensure that all services provided are incorporating Indigenous culture as a way of being and knowing in the organization.

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in social work, social service work, child and youth work, community justice work, addictions worker or related field
  • Possesses a minimum of 3 to 5 years of working within a shelter, transitional living program, outreach services and/or social services field
  • Knowledge of and experience working with a range of issues impacting youth, women and children including homelessness, violence against women and children, sexual abuse, poverty, mental health and substance use;
  • Demonstrates cultural competency including awareness, knowledge and understanding of the impacts of colonialism and systemic issues;
  • Experience working in a shelter environment
  • Fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification;
  • ASIST Certification ; Safe Space Training; Naloxone Certification
  • Must have or obtain, within 30 days of hiring date, a Vulnerable Sector CPIC.

 

SALARY: $23.00 - $25.00/hr

JOB TYPE: Full-time - 40 hours per week
