Position Title: Cayuga Language Teaching Assistant

Deadline to Apply: Until Filled

Reporting To: Six Nations Language Commission Coordinator

Location: Six Nations of the Grand River

 

Position Overview:

The Six Nations Language Commission is seeking a dedicated and passionate

Cayuga Language Teaching Assistant for a one-year adult immersion program. This contract will provide support to the program teachers and overall support the

delivery of the Cayuga immersion program. The ideal candidate will possess an

Intermediate mid-speaking proficiency (or higher) in Cayuga and will bring

enthusiasm to the role. A teaching certificate is not required, but experience in language

instruction is highly desirable.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Support:

  • Assist the Cayuga Language Teachers in delivering immersive language lessons.
  • Facilitate small group activities and one-on-one support to adult learners to

reinforce lesson material.

  • Assist teacher with student assessments, providing feedback on progress, and

helping track student performance.

  • Help prepare and organize instructional materials and resources for lessons.

 

Classroom Management:

  • Support the teacher in maintaining a positive and productive learning

environment.

  • Monitor student participation and assist in keeping learners engaged during

lessons and activities.

  • Assist with classroom setup, organization, and cleanup, as needed.

 

Administrative Support:

 

  • Assist with maintaining student records, including attendance, participation, and

progress reports.

  • Help prepare reports and communications for the Language Commission

Coordinator, as required.

  • Assist with coordinating and scheduling language-related activities, events, and

field trips.

 

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience teaching Ǫgwehǫ:weh languages.
  • Familiarity with adult education principles and techniques.
  • Ability to integrate technology into language instruction.
