JOB PURPOSE

 

The Associate Dean, Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship at Six Nations Polytechnic exists to lead the planning, delivery, and quality assurance of Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship programs. The role ensures programs meet regulatory and academic standards, supports student success, fosters a culturally respectful learning environment aligned with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values, and contributes to the growth and strategic direction of SNP’s Skilled Trades offerings while maintaining strong relationships with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community.   

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Program Planning, Delivery & Quality Assurance 40%

• Lead the annual program planning process, including course offerings, enrolment feasibility, and program advisory activities. 

• Facilitate curriculum revisions, implementation of new courses, and instructor orientation sessions. 

• Oversee academic audits, grade reviews, and student interventions to ensure high-quality learning outcomes. 

• Examples: Convening Program Advisory Committee meetings, conducting annual quality assurance reviews, evaluating transfer credits, reviewing courses. 

• Other related duties; as required 

Academic Governance & Compliance 20%

• Apply and uphold academic policies, processes, and regulations governing Skilled Trades programs. 

• Participate in adjudication proceedings related to student misconduct and academic dishonesty. 

• Represent SNP at conferences and in professional associations to maintain standards and external relationships. 

• Examples: Developing and interpreting academic policies, participating in governance committees, advising on regulatory compliance. 

• Other related duties; as required 

Leadership & Staff Management 20%

• Supervise Skilled Trades Unit staff, including hiring, performance reviews, coaching, and professional development planning. 

• Develop annual workplans and budgets, aligning staff activities with strategic goals. 

• Examples: Coordinating contract staff hiring, supporting cross-unit professional development, drafting progress reports for the Dean. 

• Other related duties; as required 

Strategic Planning & Community Engagement 15%

• Contribute to the development and implementation of SNP’s Skilled Trades strategy. 

• Foster relationships with Six Nations community organizations, industry partners, and regulatory bodies. 

• Examples: Participating in strategic enrolment management planning, representing SNP at community initiatives, supporting grant applications. 

• Other related duties; as required 

Administrative & Operational Support 5%

• Support day-to-day operations of the Skilled Trades Unit, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and reporting requirements. 

• Examples: Managing budgets, resolving student concerns, and maintaining documentation of operational procedures.

EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE

 

Completion of a formal post-secondary college or university program of three to four academic years.

 

Bachelor's degree in education, trades management or related field or Red Seal certification required. Master’s degree is an asset. 

 

EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / CULTURE AND LANGUAGE EXPERTISE

 

Over 3 years and including 5 years experience in post-secondary program administration within the Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship sector.

 

• Experience must include program planning, curriculum development, quality assurance, and compliance with regulatory or accreditation standards.
• Proven experience in staff supervision and leadership, including performance management, workload coordination, and professional development of instructors and administrative personnel.
• Managing a departmental budget and overseeing the operations of a multi-staff unit.
• Experience in liaising with government bodies, industry partners, and community stakeholders to deliver apprenticeship and Skilled Trades programming.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, develop solutions, and implement program or policy changes in a post-secondary context.

The successful candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work at Six Nations Polytechnic, and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by their first day of employment at Six Nations Polytechnic.

JOB TYPE: Full-time Permanent

SCHEDULE: 37.5 hrs Monday-Friday; 8:30am-4:00pm

WORK MODEL: Hybrid 

PAY BAND: 8; Core range $86,654.34-$101,529.38. The target hiring salary for this position is Step 1 up to 45% of the pay band. Considerations for new hire step placements include internal pay equity, experiential knowledge and/or language and cultural expertise.
