What you’ll be doing:

 

The Associate Dean for the School of Climate Action will be part of a leadership team responsible for leading and creating new and innovative programing while fostering industry relationships. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Climate Action, the incumbent will be responsible for providing academic, financial and strategic planning leadership in the newly launched School of Climate Action. Strongly influenced by Indigenous ways of knowing and with support from the Centre for Indigenous Relations, Knowledge & Learning, Mohawk College’s new School of Climate Action will create climate ready graduates in areas of industry that will make meaningful advancements in the areas of sustainability and climate action.

The Associate Dean provides broad academic leadership and operational effectiveness to the program area. Building and launching new programs, in alignment with Mohawk College’s Climate Action Plan and Academic Plan, will be the main area of focus for the first year. The Associate Dean develops new initiatives to assist the College with new partnerships and strategic alliances, and the development and implementation of alternative learning and deliveries.

Responsibility includes the supervision and management of full and part-time Faculty and Support Staff, the quality of education provided to students, and the distribution of and use of all resources in the department. In addition, this position will have an emphasis on outreach to the community, business and industry for the purposes of promoting positive community relations, partnerships and work integrated learning in the community. 

The incumbent will also be responsible for providing leadership in project management for key activities within their area as well as supporting the faculty in the planning, development, delivery and on-going review of the strategic plan to ensure the programs are aligned with student and employer needs.

What you’ll bring to the role:

 

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in a related field and/or an Honours degree combined with several years of teaching, coordination and/or management experience at the post-secondary level, combined with several years of climate, environment and related areas of sustainability industry related experience. Ideally, the incumbent not only has a Master's in a field related to the environment and sustainability, but also experience in interdisciplinary settings and its values in education.

The successful candidate will have the capacity to demonstrate a high level of management and leadership skills within a complex organization.  They will have the ability to implement programs and services to meet the current and projected education and training needs of students and employers and to provide leadership in curriculum and academic policy development. In addition, they will be able to demonstrate a commitment to maintaining a collaborative and productive working environment as articulated in the Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Directions set out by Mohawk College.

The incumbent will need to be organized, and able to multi-task. The incumbent must be a self-directed team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills; possess a solid background in creating and maintaining effective relationships and working partnerships within and outside the organization; negotiation and problem-solving skills gained from collaborating across multiple constituencies and/or within a unionized environment are essential.
