JOB SUMMARY:

The Supervisor, ACRT will be responsible to ensure that all service-related inquiries are responded to in accordance with the complaint review process as outlined in the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA) and Ogwadeni:deo policies and procedures, providing scheduled and ad hoc consultation to workers and keeping the Manager of Service informed of all contentious and high profile matters.

Supervisor, ACRT is responsible for assigning, coordinating, supervising, monitoring and evaluation of team engaged in the several processes of developing and supporting alternative care homes, the identification and monitoring/evaluation of other care resources, coordinating, supervising and monitoring response to disclosure inquiries, the direct supervision of staff and for the performance of other related duties as determined by the management team.

The Supervisor, ACRT reports to and works under the direction of the Manager of Services and adhere to the guiding values of the Code of Practice

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a BSW from a recognized school of Social Work; or an undergraduate degree in another Social Science field
  • Willing to work towards a Masters of Social Work.
  • 3 – 5 years’ direct experience in a Social Services Agency
  • Must possess a valid Ontario class “G” driver’s license
  • Must submit a favorable criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screening
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours
  • Will be Ogweho:weh in preference to other applicants

Major Position Responsibilities 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SUPPORT TO OGWEHON:WEH FAMILIES, CHILDREN AND YOUTH

  • Ensures that applications to provide Kotinonha are adequately reviewed, that applicants are interviewed, that home studies are conducted and that selected applicants are invited to participate in training
  • Ensures that orientation sessions are developed and delivered to assist potential alternative caregivers and “place of safety” caregivers in developing their commitment and understanding of the role; and that these sessions are monitored and evaluated
  • Ensures that the ACRT assists the Child Protection Workers with the selection of an appropriate placement of a child/youth in need of Kotinonha, with the provision of necessary information to the Kotinonha provider and with the development of the plan of care
  • Ensures that on-going support is provided to alternative caregivers
  • Ensures that those requesting custody information are screened, interviewed and provided with an understanding of custody procedures involved
  • Ensures that all service-related complaints are responded to in accordance with the complaint review process as outlined in the Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA) and Ogwadeni:deo policies and procedures.
  • Supervises the After Hours service on a rotational basis, including providing supervision in the provision of Child Welfare Service, ensuring after hours procedures are followed, and authorizing apprehensions and admissions to care.
  • Provides assistance in the resolution of any conflicts with collaterals which may occur in the course of an After Hours worker carrying out their duties.

 

OGWADENI:DEO THE AGENCY

  • Provides day-to-day direction and support to Child Protection Workers , ACRT, including post-intervention debriefing and support as required
  • Participates in the hiring of Child Protection Workers , ACRT
  • Conducts staff evaluation at the conclusion of a probationary period, annually and when deemed necessary in view of concerns that may arise at any time
  • Conducts an annual review of the content of the Child Protection Workers, ACRT position description and recommends any needed changes to the Executive Director.
  • Participates in the development of the annual staff training/professional development plan based on the results of staff evaluations
  • Ensures that an inventory of approved internal and external alternative care homes and external groups, foster and institutional placement options and bed availability is developed and maintained
  • Ensures that protocols governing access to external care resources are established
  • Ensures that the alternative care programs provided by external resources in relation to the needs of Ogwadeni:deo children and youth requiring alternative care are regularly evaluated
  • Ensures the most effective utilization of staff and other resources in the delivery of service
  • Ensures that payments of monthly subsidies and additional reimbursement of eligible expenses are properly calculated and approved before release; and that the required supporting documentation is on file
  • Ensures that recruitment information packages are developed
  • Maintains regular communications with other community-based and external service providers as per collaboration agreements and protocols
  • Participates in the development of protocols respecting such matters as: referral, information-sharing, confidentiality, case conferencing, service availability, care/support planning, police involvement, role and involvement of protection program staff in service provision by other agencies
  • Participates in public forums, including the media, to communicate the responsibilities and practices of the Ogwadeni:deo Program and to develop and maintain public support
  • Ensures the effective implementation of other duties as determined by management
  • Assists with the process of monitoring the adequacy of existing policies, procedures and standards and of the organization structure, and developing recommended revisions where required
  • Assists with the process of identifying and substantiating evolving needs of children, youth and their families and the design of services required to address changing needs
  • Assists with the preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual services reporting as directed

 

Knowledge, Experience & Skills Required

 

Basic/Mandatory Requirements

  • Solid knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act, Eligibility Spectrum, Ontario Safety Assessment, 
  • Family Risk Assessment and Strengths and Needs Assessment 
  • Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs and traditions in responding to child welfare 
  • Knowledge of external services and service agencies 
  • Thorough knowledge of the stages, process and milestones of normal development of children from birth to adolescence 
  • Ability to understand and speak Haudenosaunee is a definite asset

Specific Working Conditions & Requirements

 

  • Positions in the field of Ogwadeni:deo, traditional Child protection can be both mentally and emotionally challenging.  This position, given that the primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of children/youth who are alleged to be and may be found to be in need of protection and managing a team interacting with families in relation to sensitive issues can involve considerable mental and emotional stress, especially where the staff are involved in traumatic situations involving families, children and youth. This position is subject to an environment that may involve physically dangerous situationsIt is the expectation that the worker will conduct themselves within the Ogwadeni:deo Code of practice in exhibiting the values and qualities, Compassion and Kindness, respecting one another, working together, assisting one another, self reflection on actions taken, taking responsibility, encouragement, honest and moral conduct, being truthful and consistent and peaceful thoughts and actions.
