This position will provide administrative support to the Indigenous Studies Department and Indigenous Student Services. The successful applicant will be a member of an Indigenous community (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) and will have a commitment to Indigenous community development, partnership building, and growing McMaster’s acceptance and capacity for Indigenous ways of knowing. Candidates are encouraged to share information in their cover letter about their Indigenous ancestry and relevant experience with Indigenous Communities.
The Indigenous Studies Department, is a newly formed department, growing out of the Indigenous Studies Program within the Faculty of Social Sciences. The department is home to the existing undergraduate program, a planned graduate program, and research and community-focused activities. The department includes a dynamic community of students, faculty, and staff who will bring the richness and depth of Indigenous knowledge, cultures, and history to the classroom, research, and McMaster more generally.
Indigenous Student Services is focused on supporting and enhancing the experience and success of Indigenous learners at McMaster. The department promotes McMaster as the university of choice for Indigenous learners and delivers culturally appropriate services to support transition, retention, and development. We are looking for someone to join our dynamic team of Indigenous student affairs professionals.
Responsible for providing administrative support for an academic program or department. Plans and coordinates a variety of academic program or department events and activities and is also accountable for monitoring the graduate program budget and forecasting financial gains and shortfalls. Performs the duties of the position in accordance with established policies, procedures, and calendar of events.
