JOB SUMMARY: The Food Service Manager reports to and works under the direction and supervision of the Administrator of Iroquois Lodge. The Food Service Manager is accountable for all aspects of dietary services within the home to meet the nutritional needs of residents and to ensure the effective and efficient preparation and delivery of food to the residents. The Food Service Manager shall plan, develop and adapt menus within the Dietitian and supervise the staff of the dietary department within the policies and procedures established by Six Nations Elected Council.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current membership in the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (C.S.N.M.) or a Registered Dietitian required
  • Post-secondary education in dietary management and the successful completion of a recognized Food Services Program

OR

  • Successful completion of a recognized Food Services Program
  • Willingness to complete a post-secondary program in dietary management and become a member in the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (C.S.N.M.)
  • Dietary management experience in a long-term care setting

POSITION DESCRIPTION – HEALTH SERVICES

POSITION TITLE: Food Service Manager – Iroquois Lodge

 REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Reports to and receives functional and direct supervision from the Administrator – Iroquois Lodge.

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The Food Service Manager is accountable for all aspects of dietary services within the home to meet the nutritional needs of residents, and to ensure the effective and efficient preparation and delivery of food to the residents. The Food Service Manager shall plan, develop and adapt menus, with the Dietitian and supervise the staff of the dietary department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. TECHNICAL Functions:
  • Plan, organize, and provide high quality dietary services for residents of each facility.
  • Apply continuous quality improvement principles, best practice, and standardization to workflow, performance, production and changes to service and dietary requirements to meet legislative requirements.
  • Select, supervise and motivate dietary staff; ensure dietary staff works as a team, ensure high level of productivity and best use of staff capabilities.
  • Ensure environment of all food preparation and storage areas meet regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain all records in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements, including the implementation and posting of all regular and therapeutic menus.
  • Participates in the budgeting process; is accountable for the departmental budget and food costs
  • Participates and promotes continuing education related to Dietary Department or Iroquois Lodge.
  • Schedules dietary staff on a monthly basis and has time schedules prepared at least one month in advance.
  • Monitors inventories of departmental supplies and re-orders as required.
  • Follows Fire Safety Programs with the Six Nations Fire Marshall.
  • Conveys the Residents Bill of Rights and endeavors to respect and promote resident satisfaction.
  • Works closely with Staff Dietitian in menu planning for Residents.
  1. ADMINISTRATIVE Functions:
  • Prepares monthly staff time schedule at least one month in advance
  • Completion and submission of: timesheets leave forms, travel forms, performance appraisals and work plans in accordance with Six Nations Elected Council policies and procedures
  • Ensure proper filing of documents electronically, and/or hardcopy
  • Process mail and/or electronic mail in timely fashion
  • Completion of log in/out sheets as required
  • Perform work functions in accordance with Six Nations Elected Council policies and procedures
  • Ensure submission of documents (electronic or hard copy) to Iroquois Lodge Administration as required
  • Attend staff meetings, training/workshops as required.
  1. COMMUNICATION Functions:
  • Preparation of internal/external documentation used internally such as: briefing notes, updates, memos and correspondence.
  • Represent Iroquois Lodge and community in a positive, courteous, cooperative and professional manner.
  • Liaise and consult with residents, families, team members, government officials, and professionals in relation to resident care needs and department activities
  1. OTHER RELATED DUTIES:
  • Will be required to perform other job related duties as may reasonably be required by the Director of Health Services.
  • Provides support for the Six Nations Emergency Measures Plan by ensuring awareness of the Emergency Measures Plan and assistance as instructed by the Director of Health Services.
  • It is the responsibility of the employee to be aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures, including those that relate to client safety, staff safety and risk management.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working has a high profile, extensive public contact and is subject to deadlines and interruptions.

Work at times will be subject to unscheduled hours.

Receives direction, guidance, encouragement; discusses plans and priorities regarding Clinical education and control; while assessing risk management strategies and activities.

Represents and promotes Six Nations interests relative to health services; maintains awareness of legislative policy and program changes; seeks to develop close working relationships.

With the Public:

Represents and promotes the health services interests of Six Nations; works in a courteous, co-operative positive and proactive manner, provides information and advice.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current membership in the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (C.S.N.M.) or a Registered Dietitian required
  • Post-secondary education in dietary management and the successful completion of a recognized Food Services Program

OR

  • Successful completion of a recognized Food Services Program
  • Willingness to complete a post-secondary program in dietary management and become a member in the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (C.S.N.M.)
  • Dietary management experience in a long-term care setting

Additional Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of the Six Nations community and highly sensitive to Six Nations culture.
  • Must have a good understanding of the MOH guidelines.
  • Up to date immunization record including willingness to have yearly influenza vaccinations.
  • Willingness to participate in facility and community emergency events as required.
  • Dietary services are an essential service at Iroquois Lodge, and as such the FSS may be required to stay beyond their normal hours of work in order to guarantee continuity of service to Residents.
  • Strong leadership skills to direct the work of employees.
  • Superb organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety practices, principles and legislation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Customer-focused with high emphasis on building and maintaining relationships with clients.

IMPACT OF ERROR:

Errors in judgement and in the conduct of duties could lead to loss credibility, poor public relations, confusion, duplication of effort and misinformation being given to the Director of Health Services, Human Services Committee, Six Nations Elected Council, Government Agencies and the public.

CONTROL:

Guiding principles set by the Director Health Services and the Administrative policies and procedures established by the Six Nations Elected Council for the Health Services Department and other legislation provided by the respective government agencies.
