The mandate of the Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is to provide engineering and technical advisory services to all First Nations in Ontario.  The OFNTSC requires the services of an Finance Officer to assist the Director of Corporate Finance and Administration. The position will be in the Mississaugas of The  New Credit Office.

Strict confidentiality must be recognized and maintained at all times.

Under the direction of the Director of Corporate Finance and Administration the Finance Officer is responsible for maintaining a complete set of computerized accounting records and independently performing the daily accounting operations related to payments, payroll, and related functions.

Major Responsibilities.

Financial

  • Completes payments and controls expenses by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices.
  • Reconciles processed work by verifying entries and comparing system reports to balances.
  • Charges expenses to accounts and cost centers as provided by Directors; recording entries.
  • Pays vendors by monitoring discount opportunities; scheduling and preparing cheques or electronic transfer payment; resolving purchase order, contract, invoice, or payment discrepancies and documentation; insuring credit is received for outstanding memos; issuing stop-payments or purchase order amendments.
  • Maintains accounting ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions.
  • Assist Finance Controller with the month-end and year-end audit procedures
  • Verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
  • Updates vendor accounts on a regular basis.
  • Reconciles HST/GST accounts, prepares and processes claims/payments with CRA.
  • Disburses petty cash by recording entry; verifying documentation.
  • Summarizes receivables by maintaining invoice accounts; coordinating monthly transfer to accounts receivable account; verifying totals; preparing report.
  • Manage Own Travel Budget
  • Assist the Finance Controller where necessary and act in his/her capacity in their absence.
  • Payroll
  • Maintain the payroll functions to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner
    Prepare and process the bi-weekly payroll
    Process benefit carrier and pension plan remittances
    Prepare annual T4’s and ROE’s as required
    Collect and calculate employee time-sheet  data
    Assist in maintaining a structured  payroll filing system
    Ensure corporate policies and procedures are adhered to by all staff members
    Make recommendations for new and/or revised policies or administrative directives as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma in Business Administration or Accounting
  • Sensitivity to the unique needs of First Nations Peoples
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of work-related experience
  • Solid understanding of general accounting principles
  • Knowledge of the payroll processes and cycle
  • Extensive knowledge of all Microsoft Office and Google Suite programs and Sage 300 Accounting Software.
  • Must be bondable

Work remotely:

Temporarily due to COVID-19, OFNTSC staff are working remotely. Ultimately, when it is safe to do so, our goal is to work out of our offices which are in Brantford and Thunder Bay, Ontario
