Employment and Training Coach – Training on the Job (TOJ) Position Available

GREAT is recognized by Six Nations of the Grand River Territory as the Indigenous Skills, Employment and Training Development Agreement Holder that provides employment and training programs.

The Employment and Training Coach assists in the delivery of workshops, recruitment events and community outreach in employment and training initiatives to assist community members and clients in meeting employment and training objectives.

As the Employment and Training Coach (ETC) you will possess skills in client service, planning and organizing, conflict resolution, problem solving, and critical thinking.  In addition to these skills, you must meet these qualifications:

  • High School Diploma OR GED equivalent
  • Five (5) years of experience working with the public
  • Willingness to upgrade education and skillset is mandatory
  • Additional college/university/private school training in an asset
  • Strong oral and written communication skills

The Employment and Training Coach will assist the Team Leaders in delivering programs and services to achieve organizational goals and targets. The main purpose of the Employment and Training Coach is to assist the clients in meeting employment and training objectives.

 QUALIFICATIONS

The Employment and Training Coach shall possess a High School Diploma OR GED equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years of experience working with the public. Willingness to upgrade education and skillset is mandatory. Additional college/university/private school training is an asset.

The Employment and Training Coach shall be knowledgeable and possess soft skills in the following areas:

  • Ability to prepare and present at venues to promote the GREAT objectives and results.
  • Familiarity with community service organizations and their referral process.
  • Knowledge of Computers and Microsoft Office applications or willingness to learn
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to take direction
  • Must be self-directed and able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Good analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a wide variety of assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work overtime to meet deadlines and emergency situations.
  • Possess a valid Ontario driver’s license and be willing to travel frequently.

Duties

The Employment and Training Coach shall promote GREAT’s goals and objectives, maintain the level of professionalism expected by GREAT as outlined in the policies and procedures manual, and uphold the ethics of the position:

Counselling and Assessment Services

  • By collaborating with clients through intake and assessment for client employability, identifying strengths as well as central barriers to client job readiness;
  • By assisting clients to define employment goals effectively and addressing their employment goals.
  • By developing plans of action with clients which will lead to achievement of their employment goals.
  • By making appropriate use to Diagnostic Services and other community resources to extend the capability of the counsellor and to obtain specialized assistance in identifying remedial actions to address client employment needs.
  • By assisting clients with occupational and other labour market information such as the nature of occupations, occupational requirements, vocations guidance material and employment related legislation/regulations,
  • By assisting clients to make well considered employment and employment related decisions,
  • By selecting and interpreting aptitude, interest and skill tests within counseling in order to provide clients information relevant to their employment decisions and plans of actions.
  • By collaborating with clients in designing and implementing learning plans which will enable them to acquire the concepts, aptitudes and behaviours they require to search for, obtain and maintain employment.
  • By selecting and using counseling tools and techniques which are appropriate to client employment needs and promote client autonomy.
  • By assisting client’s to assess and select GREAT and/or other programs which will promote the achievement of their employment goals;
  • In consultation with the Team Leader, making judgments concerning the provision of extended services to clients with complex employment needs.
  • By arranging and supporting clients in accessing community resources to address needs affecting their employability, which are beyond GREAT mandate.
  • By marketing clients to employers when appropriate;
  • By conducting counselor follow up activities agreed to with clients as part of counseling plans of action;
  • By completing appropriate documentation on all client contracts.
  • By ensuring client information is input and updated regularly on all data systems used at GREAT
  • By promoting the use of job search techniques with clients.
  • Assist with Cover letter and resume development and group facilitation.
  • By identifying additional opportunities available to aboriginal people through Employment Equity;
  • Provide a support system to promote and encourage Aboriginal people looking for employment by offering mentoring services and counselling as needed to achieve positive employment outcomes.
