Volunteer Position

Introduction:
De dwa da dehs nye>s Aboriginal Health Centre is seeking passionate and committed individuals from our catchment area—including Brantford/Brant, Haldimand, Hamilton, Niagara, and Norfolk—to serve as Community Representatives on our Board of Directors. We currently have one (1) vacancy, with a particular interest in candidates who bring financial expertise and
experience in not-for-profit governance.

Established in 1998, De dwa da dehs nye>s is an Indigenous-designed and Indigenous-governed non-profit health organization. Our mission is to improve the wellness of Indigenous individuals, families, and communities by delivering holistic health services that are culturally safe, traumainformed, and grounded in Indigenous knowledge, values, and traditions.


Our services include:
• Primary and preventive care
• Mental health and addictions services
• Chronic disease and diabetes management
• Traditional health and healing
• Health education and research

All delivered in a respectful, inclusive, and culturally meaningful environment.

Who We’re Looking For:
We welcome applications from:
Indigenous persons preferred but not required
• Persons with a demonstrated and meaningful interest in Indigenous health and wellness
• We are especially seeking applicants with financial acumen who can contribute meaningfully to the fiscal oversight and sustainability of our growing organization. Ideal candidates will have experience in:
o Financial management or planning within non-profit or community-based organizations
o Budget development and monitoring
o Audit and risk management
o Investment strategy or financial stewardship
o Interpreting financial statements, balance sheets, and funding reports
o Supporting or serving on Finance and Audit Committees
A background as a CPA, financial analyst, treasurer, or experience working in government-funded health care environments will be considered an asset but is not required.

Board Commitment:
• The intent is for the successful candidate to be mentored into assuming the Treasurer role on the Board of Directors.
• Approximately 10 Board Meetings (in person scheduled for 2.5 hours) and 10 Committee Meetings (virtual scheduled for 1 hour) per year
• Meetings held on a consistent day each month (e.g. First Monday of the Month)
• All meetings will be held in-person at the Hamilton office
• Meetings last approximately
• Plus an annual 1-2 day retreat
