The M’Wikwedong IFC is currently accepting applications for the part-time position (21 hrs/week) of

Accounting Clerk.

Salary for this position is $45,000 (prorated).

 

The Accounting Clerk, under the direction of the Finance Officer, is responsible for the day to day administration of the Friendship Centre's finances, financial reports, accounts payable, accounts receivable, government remittances and payroll back up in accordance with Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and with MIFC policies.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Maintain and review regular accounting functions including accounts receivable and payable functions, journal entries, bank reconciliations in accordance with Friendship Centre policies and procedures;
  • Ensure an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all financial and book- keeping activities;
  • Manage the company VISA accounts, including monthly reconciliation for each VISA and ensuring staff hand in receipts for their VISA account in a timely manner every month;
  • Oversee all payroll functions:
  • Completes and oversees remittances and required government filings;
  • Assist with preparation for any audits or independent reviews, with support from the Executive Director and Finance Officer;
  • Receives and reviews all invoices for payment, obtains appropriate expense account codes and processes for payment;
  • Receives and reviews all expense claims submitted for reimbursement, ensuring claims are valid and paid in accordance with Friendship Centre policies;
  • Undertakes all payroll activities in accordance with Friendship Centre guidelines, approved salary grids, and as directed by the Executive Director;
  • Prepares and inputs required journal entries, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation is provided;
  • Prepares required financial reports for submission to funding agencies as directed by the Executive Director;
  • Maintains a record of charitable tax receipts issued and prepares charitable information returns as required by the Income Tax Act;
  • Maintains complete, current and accurate files to support all bookkeeping activities and financial transactions;
  • Actively participates and supports all audit, review and monitoring

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Demonstrated experience in the not-for-profit sector
  • Demonstrated experience in managing finance; familiarity with accounting software an asset, particularly SAGE
  • Strong computer skills and expertise in the use of MS Office
  • Ability to work under pressure to manage multiple priorities and programs
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills and diplomacy
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and discretion
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultural and the social reality that Indigenous people experience in urban settings is a definite asset;
  • College or university degree in related field is an asset
  • Ability to obtain a satisfactory CPIC- Vulnerable Sector
